Optifine improves the performance of your Minecraft such as increasing the fps. It is also a requirement for using CIT packs because it adds features such as custom entity models and connected textures.

Shaders

A shader is not required for using a CIT pack, but I love the look it gives my builds!

BSL is my favorite shader, but there are lots out there (especially if you have a slower computer, I suggest looking for a lite shader).
